Professional Tax Training

Tax preparation courses teach professionals how to prepare individual and business taxes.

Individuals and businesses prefer to entrust trained tax professionals with their taxes, as opposed to novice preparers who have not completed tax preparation coursework. With that in mind, those interested in working in tax preparation typically enroll in a training program.

Options

People can take tax training courses at a tax preparation business, traditional college or online school. H&R Block offers classes at their offices, the Illinois Tax Training Institute provides classes on campus and the National Tax Training School offers online courses. These are just three of the numerous options for students.

Types of Courses

Students learn about the history of taxes, tax preparation, auditing and tax laws. In addition, some places, such as H&R Block, provide students with information about customer interaction so they can have a positive rapport with customers as they prepare their taxes.

Considerations

The Internal Revenue Service has created new regulations to make it more difficult for individuals to become tax professionals. Beginning in 2011, people must pass a competency test prior to becoming professional tax preparers. As a result, students must choose a training program that will provide them with the information they need to past the test.
