Wedding Color Etiquette
In addition to selecting just the right gift for the newlyweds, wedding guests also have the extra added pressure of choosing an outfit to wear for the ceremony. Here's a quick guide to help you pick the perfect outfit.
-
Red
-
Be careful not to stop the show by wearing a red dress. As a general rule of thumb, guests should steer away from wearing this traffic stopping color when getting dressed for a wedding. Red can be seen as too loud or overly sexy and can take attention from the bride.
White
-
Proceed with extreme caution when wearing white to a wedding. Typically, women should avoid wearing white to a wedding to ensure that no one mistakes them for the bride. If you do wear white, do so carefully and accessorize with lots of color.
-
Black
-
Wearing black to a wedding is no longer taboo. Wearing black to a wedding used to be a major fashion faux pas. Not anymore. Just make sure to dress it up with colorful accessories.
Morning Wedding
-
Choose lighter colors for early morning nuptials. For a morning wedding, dress in lighter colors. More casual attire is acceptable as well. Women can wear dresses or skirts in pastels or floral. Men should still wear a suit or a sport coat and slacks.
Evening Wedding
-
Choose darker colors for evening weddings. Stronger, more elegant colors are best for evening weddings. Guests should dress as though they are going out for a special evening or a nice dinner.
