Designer Christian Dior felt that perfume was the finishing touch to a woman's outfit.

Christian Dior was first known as a dress designer in the 1930s and 1940s. He founded his own couture house in 1946. Dior felt that perfume was a woman's finishing touch, and in 1947 he marketed his first perfume, Miss Dior. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. First Perfume

    • Miss Dior was first marketed in a classic amphora bottle. Later, it was sold in a bottle with a houndstooth design. Dior's childhood friend Serge Heftier-Louiche launched the new product, described as "based on a chypre bottom note and a green floral accord."

    Dior's Later Perfumes

    • Diorama was the next perfume produced by Dior in 1949, followed by Eau Fraiche in 1953 and Diorissimo in 1956. At this point, Dior said he considered himself "as much a perfumer as a fashion designer."

    Dior's Death

    • Dior's death in 1957 did not halt the development of new perfumes. The Dior company produced Diorling in 1963, and in 1966, it launched its first male fragrance, Eau Savage.

    Types

    • Diorella was produced in 1972, followed by Dior-Dior and Dioressence. In the 1980s came Jules, Eau Savage Extreme, Poison and Fahrenheit. The 1990s saw Dune, Tendre Poison, Dolce Vita, Dune for Man, Eau Dolce Vita, Hypnotic Poison and J'Adore. In the 2000s, Dior has launched Remember Me, Forever and Ever, I Love Dior, Higher, Tellement Or, Dior Addict, Higher Energy, Pure Poison, Miss Dior Cherie, Capture Totale and Midnight Poison.
