Frontline Plus Information

Frontline is a treatment to keep fleas and ticks off of dogs and cats.

Frontline Plus provides treatment and protection from fleas and ticks for dogs and cats. While this medicine is effective in keeping fleas and ticks at bay, there is important information to follow for application, dosage and side effects.

Application

There is one Frontline Plus formula for cats and four different choices for dogs based on weight.

Frontline Plus is applied once a month to the skin at the back of the neck. There are appropriate formulas for dogs based on their weight classes and one formula for cats.

Ingredients

The ingredients in Frontline Plus keep away deer ticks, which can cause Lyme Disease.

Frontline Plus contains fipronil and S-methoprene, pesticides which both kill fleas and ticks within 18 hours after application.

Warnings for Humans

Contact a physician immediately if you swallow Frontline Plus.

Avoid touching a treated animal in the application area for approximately 24 hours following Frontline Plus treatment. Contact poison control immediately if swallowed.

Prescription Advice

Frontline Plus is available only with a prescription.

Frontline Plus is a prescription drug and should only be used under the guidance of a veterinarian.

Toxicity

Frontline Plus has caused cancer in studies with rats.

Frontline Plus is known to have moderate toxicity, endocrine disruptive and carcinogenic properties due to the pesticide Fipronil. Studies in rats have shown cancer causing results.

Side Effects and Precautions

Frontline Plus should not be applied to animals younger than eight weeks old.

This product may cause local skin irritation and should not be used on ill, elderly or pregnant animals or animals under the age of eight weeks.
