How Many Calories Should a 1 Year Old Eat? thumbnail
A one-year-old has different nutritional needs than an infant.

When an infant turns one, he begins the transition from baby to toddler. While one-year-olds do not necessarily eat the same foods as two-year-olds, the switch from bottles and baby food to table food and whole milk begins at this age.

  1. Number of Calories

    • KidsHealth.org says that toddlers should consume 1,000 to 1,400 calories per day. This applies more to children between the ages of two and three, but it can serve as a guideline for one-year-olds, as their eating habits transition from baby foods to table food.

Although fats do not need to be restricted for infants, KidsHealth.org recommends that by the age of two, children should get only 30 to 35 percent of their daily calories from fat.
