Nail extensions are also common in the cultures of Thailand and India. A sign of wealth and status in these cultures, nail extensions have evolved into the affordable luxury we know today.

As of 2002, there were more than 368,000 practicing nail technicians. Training to do nail extensions can be found in most beauty schools and through companies that manufacture the products used for nail extensions. Most states require a license to do nail extensions.

Time Frame

All states have different requirements for hours to become licensed to apply nail extensions. Generally, it takes 200 to 400 hours of instruction to apply for a license. Building your clientele and your skill level in applying nail extensions takes time and patience. Become familiar with your state's licensing procedures and your training facility's relationship with your state board.
