Eco Friendly Dust Mite Repellent
If you hate the thought of dust mites in your home, but do not want to use chemical measures or extra energy and water with increased washing, you can try some eco-friendly measures to reduce your contact with the mites. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Repellent
-
Dust mites thrive in humid environments. Eco-friendly rosemary oil reduces moisture levels. Add a few drops of rosemary oil to the laundry when washing bed linens, or add a few drops to a water bottle and wipe down surfaces to create a less inviting environment for mites.
Other Measures
-
You can keep dust mites away from you through other non-chemical measures. Remove carpets from your home and install bamboo or other sustainable hard surfaces to cut down on dust mites, advises Natalia Marshall in "Live an Eco Friendly Life." You can put an allergen blocker on your mattress to help keep dust mites from getting into your mattress.
-
Considerations
-
It is impossible to eliminate all dust mites from your home, but you can work to reduce your exposure to them. Dusting often and avoiding wool or down bedcovers can help, according to the Mayo Clinic. You can kill dust mites with tannic acid powder, but it can worsen allergic reactions in some people.
