Can You Drink From the Aloe Vera Plant? thumbnail
Aloe vera is usually not toxic to humans, but it can be to pets.

It is possible to drink the thick, bitter juice from a fresh leaf of an aloe vera plant. However, pets such as dogs and cats should never consume aloe vera, as it is poisonous to them. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Instructions

    • Cut the spearlike leaf from the fresh plant. Hold the cut end down to let the dark red resin drain out. Consume only the clear gel-like fluid. Rinse the leaf under water. Either squeeze the green outsides to push out the gel, or split the leaf in half with a knife.

    Warning

    • Some people cannot tolerate fresh aloe vera and may suffer diarrhea and painful abdominal cramps. Since aloe vera speeds up the digestion process, any medications taken may be pushed through the body before they are absorbed.

    Alternatives

    • Fresh aloe vera gel can also soothe minor burns and minor scrapes and scratches. Clinical studies show conflicting information if aloe vera liquid or gel helps to heal wounds.
