Why Does the AntiVirus Icon Disappear on My Vista Desktop?

Keeping your antivirus software up to date is crucial to maintaining a safe Internet connection.

When using Windows Vista, a few possible reasons can cause the antivirus icon to not be visible in your desktop's toolbar. Needing an updated software, having an incomplete installation or simply a hiding icon will cause your icon to not be visible.

Hidden Icon

Click on the arrow button located to the right side of your toolbar to see if the icon is simply hiding. Windows Vista will slightly hide the list of running processes in the toolbar using this button.

Compatibility

Windows Vista may not recognize your antivirus software if it is built for a previous version of Windows. If this is the case, it is recommended you immediately update or purchase new antivirus software. Consult Microsoft's list of consumer security software providers when choosing a program.

Installation and Configuration

If you are upgrading from a previous version of Windows, you will have to reinstall or reconfigure your antivirus software so it is designated to protect your new operating system.
