Job Duties
-
After the raw cotton is spun into yarn or thread, the cotton spooler puts the strands onto spools or cones using a spooling machine. At the end of each process, he ties the ends to secure the thread on the cone. He watches each machine operate to ensure the correct speed is calibrated and the threads are spooled without tangles or knots.
Skill Requirements
-
Manual dexterity is required to operate the levers and switches on the textile production equipment. Visual acuity enables the spooler to spot defects and ensure quality control. Basic equipment maintenance skills help the spooler keep the machines running smoothly.

Preferred Background
-
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not always mandatory. The ability to understand spoken and written English is required. Most textile production companies provide on-the-job training to new workers. Background in plant machine operations is a plus.
