Animals That Live in the Appalachian Mountains in Georgia
The Appalachian Mountains span from southeastern Canada through part of Alabama, passing through Georgia. A diverse array of animals inhabit the streams and broadleaf forest that cover this mountain range.

Small Mammals

Opossums populate several regions, including the Appalachian Mountains in Georgia. Many rodents live in the Georgian Appalachians, such as the masked shrew and southern red-backed vole. A variety of squirrels, such as the red and eastern gray, also live in the region. Opossums, cottontail rabbits, beavers, skunks, raccoons, chipmunks and woodchucks live there as well.
Deer

White tailed deer commonly appear in the Appalachian Mountains. The white tailed dear population in the region thrives. Elk also live in this region of the Appalachian Mountains but are seen considerably less often.

Predatory Mammals

American black bears live in several regions of Georgia, including in the Appalachians. The gray fox and black bear remain the two most common predatory mammals of the region. Bobcats and coyotes, though less common, also live there.
Birds

The kingfisher is one type of bird that can be found in the region. The region is home to a number of ducks, geese, owls, hawks, eagles and kingfishers. The mourning dove, common raven and various songbirds live abundantly, as well.
Freshwater Fish

Fish belonging to the minnow family live in the area. The streams in the region host a number of freshwater species, including minnows, wild brook and speckled trout.
