Established in 1862, the Nevada State Prison is one of the oldest functioning prisons in the U.S. It has a capacity of 841 inmates and provides a range of minimum, medium and maximum security facilities and programs.

Educational Programs

The Nevada Department of Correction's Education Division offers academic and vocational programs in cooperation with local school districts, community colleges and universities. Some program goals include ensuring that all inmates receive at minimum a high school diploma and have vocational training in various skills and trades.
Health Programs

All inmates are guaranteed basic medical care at Nevada correctional facilities. Each facility provides access to medical, dental, clinical mental health and pharmacy services. Two locations offer on-site acute care infirmaries and regular clinics are held with specialists such as cardiologists and surgeons.

A range of other programs are available to prisoners in Nevada. The Family Services Division facilitates communication between inmates and families, while inmate banking helps manage finances through payroll, outside deposits or gift money. Additionally, conservation camps allow inmates to take advantage of corrective or training programs to gain specialized vocational and life skills.
