How to Compare Speed-Reading Courses
Speed-reading courses claim to improve reading ability by increasing the number of words you read per minute. Some speed readers claim to be able to finish a 500-page book in less than 15 minutes. It all sounds very impressive. Keep in mind, however, that the fastest readers are the ones with excellent study skills and vocabularies.

Identification
-
Traditional speed-reading courses like Evelyn Wood's Reading Dynamics have been around since the 1950s. These classes teach you to read faster through techniques like skimming and using your finger as a pointer to help you improve the amount of material you can cover.
Program Features
-
In comparing speed-reading courses, various questions must be answered: Are you looking for a course for an adult or child? Do you prefer an in-person seminar or a computer software program? Would you like a program with customization that allows you to change the text format? Some programs allow you to display the full text while groups of words are highlighted and move off the page as you read.

Considerations
-
Cost is an important consideration as well. Face-to-face seminars are more expensive than software programs. All courses teach the same basic techniques to keep your attention focused on the page, according to Glendale Community College. Study skills are critical as well; speed reading isn't going to help you with understanding the material you read.
