  1. Maine Flounder Fishing

    • Flounder fish only reside in saltwater lagoons and estuaries, and can be found along the coast on the eastern border of Maine. According to the state's Department of Marine Resources, one prime location for winter flounder fishing is Kittery Point, located on the southern side of the state along the Piscataqua River.

    Fishing Locations

    • Maine fishermen seeking out flounder should look near jetties, docks or mounds of rocks that might act as natural ambush locations for flounder fish seeking food. While open beach zones in Maine might not be the most ideal place to catch flounder, fishermen looking in these regions should look for the fish in offshore sandbars.

    Flounder Fishing Tips

    • Flounder fish are among the easiest species to catch off the coast of Maine. Fishermen seeking flounder can use a conventional reel with a 20 pound line. The best way to catch flounder is to put a sinker at the end of a fishing line, drop it from a boat and drift along until the sinker catches attention.
