Online learning can help dyslexics reach their potential.

Dyslexia is a learning disability that causes a person to struggle with writing, reading and spelling. Its severity varies from person to person. Dyslexics are often highly intelligent, However, because of issues with reading and spelling, they may progress slowly in school and receive poor grades. Online learning has become a viable option for children and adults with dyslexia because of the personally tailored programs.

  1. Function

    • Online learning is available from kindergarten through grade 12, and for adults' continuing education. Children from K-12 can take advantage of a free online public-school education in many states; with the help of a knowledgeable tutor or parent a student with dyslexia can thrive. Many colleges and universities offer online courses alongside their classroom courses so a student can do most of his college work online. The courses at institutions such as the University of Phoenix and Kaplan University are given completely online.

    Benefits

    • Online learning offers a person with dyslexia the benefit of working at his own pace, utilizing learning aids and studying in an ideal learning environment that is free from distraction.

    Warning

    • The downside to online learning is limited interaction with the professor; there is not as much one-on-one attention as in a classroom. Limited socialization may be of concern for someone who is looking to find support.
