What Is Masonite Siding? thumbnail
Masonite siding has long been a popular choice for homeowners.

Masonite siding is a type of hardboard siding manufactured by the Masonite Corporation. Masonite siding is made from wood fiber, wax and resins that are fused together through a pressurized heating process. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Advantages of Masonite Siding

    • Masonite siding is often chosen over traditional lumber siding because of its durability and strength. It has been a popular siding for many years because of its ease of installation and its close resemblance to real wood siding.

    Disadvantages of Masonite Siding

    • Masonite siding may be susceptible to rotting, cracking, peeling, blistering and insect infestation. Masonite maintenance may therefore include fungus and insecticide treatments. If installed incorrectly, Masonite siding may buckle or take on a wavy appearance. Finally, Masonite siding must be primed and painted at least every five to seven years.

    Options for Masonite Siding

    • Masonite siding is pre-manufactured and may be sold either in a primed, prepainted, prestained, or prefinished condition, thereby providing consumers and installers with a number of options.
