An Introduction to PageMaker

PageMaker, produced by Adobe Systems Incorporated, is a publication development tool used for creating print or electronic reading material. PageMaker's features enable you to create publications using either formatted templates or original designs. PageMaker integrates with other software and printers.

  1. Templates

    • Templates are formatted page layouts that allow the designer to enter text and import images into pre-determined locations. Templates can be used as-is or modified as needed. A template is an efficient option if you're on a tight deadline.

    Original Designs

    • PageMaker uses page layout and content-creation options, such as master pages and typography, to help create an original design. These features enable experimentation with the least effort, giving the designer full control of the document setup. Layout adjustment, for example, can reposition content throughout the entire design. Original designs are often used when a unique style is needed (like a corporate logo).

    Integration

    • Adobe's user interface makes it possible for PageMaker to integrate with other software products, such as spreadsheets and graphic design programs. Data from spreadsheets can be imported into PageMaker, merged, and used to create mailing labels, for example. PageMaker incorporates industry printing standards for output to high- and low-end printers.
