Many schools provide online survey courses in genetics.

As of September 2010, several schools, such as nationally-recognized Duke University, offer online introduction genetics courses. In addition to credit courses offered as part of a formal course of study, some schools, such as UC Berkeley, provide online introductory genetics classes to the general public as part of an extension program.

  1. Schools

    • Many schools that have online bioscience programs, such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tufts University and University of Kansas, also have online introductory genetics courses. Classes for university credit usually requires at least one class meeting on campus, but others, such as those from the University of Illinois, conduct classes entirely online.

    Length

    • Online introductory genetics classes for college credit last one semester, or about 20 weeks. Other courses, such as one offered by UC Berkeley Extension, allows students up to six months to complete the course.

    Locations

    • School websites usually have the option for online class enrollment, as well as printable applications for submission with payment.
