Painting is a creative way to change the look of everyday bottles.

Everyday items such as glass bottles and jars can be given a new purpose just by adding some paint, ribbon and even tissue paper. Bottles and jars can be used as vases, storage containers or just for decoration.

  1. Select the Paint

    • Choosing the right color and type of paint is the first step.
Choosing the right color and type of paint is the first step.

Choose the color as well as the type of paint. If the bottle is to be used merely for decoration, then any craft paint is suitable. However, if the bottle is going to hold liquid, then you will need to purchase an acrylic-based paint so that the paint will not wash away when the liquid is added. You will also need to find a nontoxic paint if the liquid in the bottle will be consumed.

    Painting the Bottle

    • Paint the inside of the bottle by swirling the paint on all sides.

Pour a small portion of paint into the bottle, filling it approximately 1 inch deep. Move the bottle side-to-side and in a circular motion to evenly coat the inside of the bottle. Add more paint as needed and repeat until the entire bottle is coated. Once the bottle is fully painted, pour out the excess paint.

    Drying the Bottle

    • The bottle can be left to dry on its own in a cool, dry place or a hairdryer can be used to speed up the drying process. Turn the hairdryer on low cool setting and gently blow onto the paint until it's dry.
