How Do They Grade an Immigration Service Officer Test?

The United States Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS), part of the Department of Homeland Security, hires immigration services officers (ISOs) to maintain the integrity of the immigration system. Applicants must pass a special test to become an ISO.

  1. Test Sections

    • The test includes a logical reasoning test and a writing skills test. You can read a test preparation manual and answer practice questions at uscis.gov.

    Test Type

    • All questions on the test have multiple choice answers and the applicant must select A, B, C, D or E on a separate answer sheet for each question. The answer sheet could be graded by hand or computer.

    Test Grading

    • USCIS does not divulge the exact manner of grading the test or what score one needs to pass it. But they do not deduct points from the score for wrong answers. So if you don't know an answer after thoroughly reading the questions and all the answers, guess. Never leave an answer space blank.
