Business Funding in the Canadian Government
The Canadian government provides funding for Canadian businesses through a diverse array of grant and loan programs. Entrepreneurs can visit a dedicated website that allows them to search for funding by industry, type of business and the demographic specifications of the entrepreneur.

Types
-
The Canadian government provides funding for business in various forms, including nonrepayable---grants, contributions, tax refunds and credits, wage subsidies---and repayable---loans and loan guarantees. Your business may be eligible for more than one type of funding, and discussion with a financial adviser or a representative from Canada Business (see Resources) will help you decide what is the best option for you.
Eligibility
-
The Canada Business website has a useful feature that allows you to enter your financing purpose---for example, Starting a Business, Hiring Employees, Obtaining a Patent---province and demographic group---for example, Women, Immigrants, Rural and Northern Residents. The site will give you a list of all funding programs for which you may be eligible. Note there are programs available even for those who choose "None of these groups apply to me" under demographic group.
-
Application
-
Once you have determined which type of funding is appropriate for your business and which programs you may be eligible for, each program must be applied for separately. The list you obtained after entering your demographic information includes a link to information about each program, including application instructions.
