What Is an ANSI 107 Class 2 High Visibility Vest?

A class 2 vest offers street and highway workers more visibility.

In 1999, the International Safety Equipment Association created the ANSI/ISEA 107 standard dictating that American workers always wear high-visibility apparel, such as a Class 2 vest, while working.

Class 2 Vest

ANSI defined a class 2 vest as a vest used in places where workers need greater visibility, work in inclement weather or work in approaching traffic. Examples of workers who would need this vest include roadway construction workers, school crossing guards and accident site investigators.

Revisions

In 2004, ISEA modified the standard to address issues that the vest should be breathable. In 2010, they again changed the standard to make the vest fire-retardant, to determine use of the vest during rain and mandate reflective material on the shoulder.
