Materials Needed
-
To make a solar hot dog cooker, get a small narrow box such as a shoebox, aluminum foil, scissors and poster board. Non-toxic or school glue will be used to keep the foil in place.
Construction
-
Cut a curve out of the poster board that fits into the box. Glue the foil onto the curve. When the glue dries, use tape to fit the curve into the box. Hot dogs can be laid directly on the foil or a makeshift skewer can be balanced over the solar cooker's curve.
-
Function
-
Sunlight reflects off the foil to cook the hot dog. The curve helps to concentrate the heat in the area underneath the hot dog. The length of cooking time depends on many factors, including how sunny it is that day.
