Company History
-
Prior to the advent of modern refrigeration, Anheuser-Busch established "ice houses" to keep beer cold while being distributed by railway cars. In 1872, the company adopted the symbolic A & Eagle trademark which is still used to market Budweiser. The company grew rapidly in the 1950s and 1960s. In 2008, Anheuser-Busch merged with InBev to become one of the top five international consumer goods companies.
Prohibition
-
During the prohibition period, the company ceased selling alcoholic beverages entirely but switched to marketing and distributing non-alcoholic products ranging from soft drinks to ice cream to truck parts in order to survive. The company also marketed a non-alcoholic version of Budweiser for consumers who had acquired a taste for beer.
