Why Is My House Damp?
Chances are that you will either smell or feel the dampness in your house before ever seeing it. You need to get rid of the household dampness before it encourages the growth of mold. Although there are myriad reasons that your house may be damp, there are some common culprits. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Structural Moisture
-
If the ground does not properly slope away from your foundation or basement, water can breach the foundation or structure and cause persistent dampness. Also, it's imperative that you consistently clean out gutters and ensure that drip pans and drain lines are flowing and not obstructed.
Indoor Humidity
-
To ward off dampness in your house, it is essential to keep the indoor humidity low. Ideal humidity levels are between 30 to 50 percent relative humidity. If you notice persistent condensation on windows or walls, these are signs that the humidity in your home is too high.
-
Untreated Leak
-
Absent an uncontrolled gushing from a burst pipe, not all household leaks are easily detected. Check the pipes to make certain they remain sealed and drip-free, examine the plumbing for any leaks and ensure that there aren't any foundation cracks or roof leaks that need to be repaired.
