What Is a POP3 Server Address? thumbnail
POP3 server makes it possible to receive emails from anywhere in the world.

A POP3 server address allows you to receive emails. POP3 refers to Post Office Protocol Version 3 and is a type of mail server that temporarily stores your email until it is opened and read on your personal computer.

  1. Function

    • POP3 refers to a mail server used for incoming mail. It provides a temporary location for emails to be stored until users are connected to the email server via Internet, Ethernet or virtual private network (VPN) connection. When users connect, the messages are downloaded from the server.

    Significance

    • POP3 refers to the server that receives messages but does not send messages; this is done by the IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) server. Once the message has been downloaded on the user's end, it is deleted on the server's side.

    Considerations

    • Not all email providers are connected through POP3/IMAP. You can create a POP3/IMAP email account by going to your "Control Panel" and clicking on the "Email Manager" task bar. From there you click on the "Create New Box" and enter the details on the email creation tab. If you already have POP3 email and want to know the address, contact your email provider.
