Adding a USB wireless adapter to a television will not make your television into an Internet-ready device that can surf the web. Popular options for Internet access via your television include game consoles and external computers.

Dedicated Nettop

Very small computers called nettops often come with wireless networking and can be connected to a television as a dedicated computer. A nettop can be used as a dedicated Internet device or as a media center. As of 2010, Mozilla-based Kylo is the leading application made for Web surfing via large television screens.

Wireless Laptop

As of 2010, many flat panel televisions have multiple inputs including VGA and DVI. Users can connect a laptop via the VGA or DVI cable and use the television as a secondary monitor. To surf the Internet with this setup, a user just needs to open a browser as he normally would.

Internet Via Console

Game consoles connected to your television, such as the Nintendo Wii and Sony Playstation 3, have built-in wireless networking and Web browsing capabilities. Game console Web browsers are proprietary and may be limited in functionality compared to surfing on a computer with Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
