How to Compare Hunting Crossbows

How to Compare Hunting Crossbows thumbnail
There are many aspects of comparisons between models of crossbows.

Crossbow hunting is becoming more popular as increasing numbers of states are changing their regulations to make legal crossbow archery equipment. But which crossbow to choose can be a difficult decision. Here are some things to consider when you are shopping.

  1. Power and Speed

    • Crossbows are measured first by the pounds of pull it takes to arch the bow and lock the string into the firing mechanism. Generally, the higher the pounds-of-pull, the greater the arrow speed. However, due to innovative technology, some crossbows are capable of arrow speeds as high or higher than competitive models with higher pulls. High arrow speed translates into better accuracy and range.

    Arrow Length

    • Check the arrow length required of the bows which you are comparing. Longer arrow lengths usually mean higher arrow speeds, longer range and greater accuracy.

    Warranty

    • Check the warranty offered for the make and models you are considering. There are no industry standards, and they vary from less than a year to lifetime or as long as you own the crossbow.

    Extras

    • Check out the special features that may appeal to you. Some models feature adjustable triggers, special camouflage paint, telescopic sights or other extras, any of which you may consider to range from very useful to inconsequential. Pick the model that best suits your desires.

    Price

    • Crossbows are available in a wide range of price points. Determining what your budget will allow, then shop to find the model that offers you the best quality and features in that price range.
