How to Compare Running Shoe Brands
Choosing a running shoe is a very personal decision. Many runners have used a certain brand for several years. When deciding which brand is best for you, there are a few specific considerations you'll need to make, including your personal running style, the design of the shoe and the shoe's materials.
-
Running Mechanics
-
One of the most important aspects of choosing a running shoe is focusing on what you need it to do for you. The kind of shoe you need depends on your gender, weight, shoe size, and how your foot strikes the ground. Check to see if your foot rolls out or in when running. Review how you push off of the ground. Examine your arch to see if it is high, medium or flat. Many brands target certain biomechanics, so look for the one that meets your personal needs.
Type of Shoe
-
Running shoes are designed to help correct any abnormalities. There are three types of shoes---motion control, stability and neutral-cushioned. Many brands focus on one of the three areas, so pick the brand that gives you the control needed to stabilize any rolling and provide the cushioning you need. Another important factor in choosing a running shoe is what type of activity you'll be doing. Training, trail running, speed workouts and racing all need a different shoe. Many brands focus only on one type of activity.

Materials
-
When deciding on a brand check the weight, flexibility, the fit around the toes and the heel, as well as the breathability of the shoe. Decide if you like the height of the sole and most importantly if you are comfortable in them. Make sure you take them for a test run before finalizing your decision.
