Definition of Dental Insurance
Dental insurance is sometimes sold by health insurance providers in combination. However, you can also regularly buy a dental insurance policy from a dental insurance specialist. This product category pays benefits of dentist visits and dental procedures.
-
Basics
-
Dental insurance is a purchase of a guarantee of payment on contract covered events. The insurance providers agree to policy terms and provisions in exchange for your premium payments.
Coverage
-
Routine cleanings and check-ups are the most commonly covered and used benefit of dental insurance. Most providers pay for one to two regular check-ups per year. While benefits vary greatly by policy, other inclusions could be: crowns and fillings, emergency tooth replacements, non-cosmetic oral surgeries and X-rays.

Considerations
-
According to the American Dental Association, only about half of all Americans are covered by dental policies. Many employers offer access to group policies that offer cost advantages and generally broader benefits coverage than individual policies.
