The Best Time to Plant Roses in Arizona

Established and container roses can be planted throughout the year.

Roses flourish in well-draining soils, but not in sandy ones. Before planting your rose bush be certain to amend your soil with blood meal and organic matter, such as compost.

Bare-Root Roses

Bare-root roses are usually purchased from nurseries and garden centers. The root system is enclosed within a protective bag or shell. These types of roses are best planted in January.

Container Roses

The root systems of container roses are more developed than those in bare-root roses. Because of this, container roses can be planted in Arizona at any time of year. Be certain, however, that the plant is well-hydrated and avoid planting when temperatures are in upper extremes.

Transplanting Roses

Moving roses from one area of the garden to another is commonly done during spring. However, like container roses, garden roses can be moved any time of year.
