Phototherapy, also known as laser therapy, uses low levels of light to penetrate the skin and underlying tissues help the body repair itself naturally. According to MedX, patients receiving laser therapy with their phototherapy devices heal faster and have less pain, inflammation and swelling.

MedX lasers have been used to treat many types of chronic and acute pain from injuries, migraines, whiplash, sprains and strains, sinusitis, bone fractures and arthritis. Lasers have also been used in the treatment of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, weight loss and stop-smoking therapies, and for the treatment of scars.
Considerations

Steroids, immune suppressing medications, anti-inflammatories and certain over-the-counter medications can decrease the effectiveness of the lasers or cause undesirable side effects. MedX laser devices should also not be used on the eye or thyroid gland, over a pregnant uterus, or near a cancerous lesion or carcinoma.
