Purpose of Chocolate
-
Chocolate contains antioxidants, which reduce free-radical damage, thus keeping the skin youthful in appearance. The antioxidants in chocolate are necessary to combat free radicals, which can come from pollution, the sun, cigarette smoke and alcohol. The antioxidants, therefore, protect the skin from environmental damage. According to the Diva Village website, chocolate is often combined with caffeine, which helps increase blood circulation, decreasing cellulite and firming the skin.
Facial Treatments
-
Many spas offer chocolate facial treatments. Raw cocoa powder is a main ingredient in facial treatments because it contains a high amount of antioxidants. According to the Look Great website, raw cocoa powder is "the highest known source of antioxidants in the world," with "over 25,200 antioxidants in one small spoonful." Chocolate powder is combined with other ingredients to create personalized facial masks. Chocolate facial masks are applied to the skin and allowed to penetrate the pores so the skin can reap the benefits before being carefully washed off or removed with a warm, wet cloth. Other spas "paint" melted chocolate on the face and let it set before removing.

Body Treatments

Chocolate is used in full body treatments to increase circulation, tightening the skin and reducing cellulite. The antioxidants found in chocolate protect the skin. Chocolate body treatments include warm chocolate-milk baths. Body exfoliations with cocoa beans smooth the skin. Chocolate lotions moisturize and protect the skin, and chocolate massages and chocolate body wraps help draw impurities from the body. According to the Health Tourism Magazine website, "chocolate massages and baths moisturize the skin, fight cellulite and re-mineralizes the skin and metabolism."
