Divorce affects women economically.

A Manpower Demonstration Research Corporation article reveals that there's definitely a relationship between poverty and divorce. The effects of divorce, for women in particular, can be thought-provoking to any women considering divorce.

  1. Homemakers

    • For women who have taken on the job of running a home and caring for the children, divorce can result in a rude financial awakening. Coming from a home in which the husband is the sole financial provider can potentially leave a women in financial ruin after divorce, without alimony or child support.

    What the Census Says

    • An article published by the National Council on Family Relations says that, "One half of the poor female-headed families are headed by women who are divorced or separated."

    Spousal and Child Support

    • Studies show that spousal and child support has declined, leaving single-parent mothers with the burden to bear. Even with a two-parent family income, families can struggle financially. So leaving the mother to bear this responsibility alone means that much more of a financial burden.
