What Is a System 32 Error?
System 32 errors have a variety of causes. They can result from corruption or damage to essential Windows operating system files or file components downloaded from the Internet.
-
Disk Cleanup
-
The Windows Disk Cleanup utility allows you to remove downloaded program files -- such as ActiveX controls, Java applets and Windows temporary files -- and may help to resolve some System 32 errors. It can be accessed via "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories" and "System Tools."
Compatibility Mode
-
The "Program Compatibility Wizard" in Windows XP, which can be found in the "Accessories" program group, allows programs to be run as they would on an older version of Windows. This is one way to resolve System 32 errors in specific, older applications.
-
Manual Replacement
-
It's possible to resolve System 32 errors by manually replacing files in the Windows System 32 folder -- which is usually "C:\Windows\System32"-- but this should only be attempted by advanced users. System files may affect more than one program or the whole operating system, so replacing the wrong file could do more harm than good.
