What Does SCLP in Crocheting Mean?

SCLP is a combination of two abbreviations. SC means single crochet and LP means loop. Using abbreviations makes it easier to read pattern instructions. According to Karp Styles Crochet & Knitting, these abbreviations are used in North American patterns; Australian and European patterns may use different abbreviations.

Single Crochet

Crocheting requires skill and perseverence.

With a single crochet stitch, you insert the crochet hook into the next stitch, following the pattern's instructions. Pull the loop, yarn over, and pull it through the two loops on the hook to finish that stitch.

Loop

The loop is the yarn--or thread--on the crochet hook, though it might mean the front or back loop of another stitch, according to the Crochet Memories website.

Yarn Over

Yarn over can either refer to pulling the yarn or thread over the crochet hook in working with a stitch, which could include the double crochet stitch (DC), or hooking the yarn to draw it through a stitch.
