You can remove spray paint from brick using everyday materials from your home. Fortunately, because it is nonporous, brick is ill-suited for paint adhesion. In addition, brick surfaces allow for aggressive removal techniques that prove highly effective.

  1. Lubrication

    • The best way to loosen spray paint from a brick surface is to lubricate it. Ordinary olive oil is appropriate for this type of project. Dampen a rag with a few drops of olive oil and massage the spray paint. Allow the olive oil to soak into the brick and paint for a full minute before beginning the abrasion process.

    Abrasion

    • Once the brick is lubricated, use steel wool to loosen the paint. Scrub in a circular motion for best results.

    Considerations

    • Although brick is durable, it is not immune to abrasion scars. Be sure to lubricate the brick with olive oil before you begin the abrasion process. The olive oil will not only loosen the paint, but will also help protect the brick from scratches.
