Certification

Consumer credit counselors must obtain certification to meet national standards. The candidate takes an online exam of 100 multiple-choice questions. Qualified proctors administer the exams.

Consumer credit counselors must adhere to a strict code of ethics. They deal with families in crisis and must keep confidential information private. They must also treat all clients without discrimination regardless of personal bias.
Cost

When the consumer credit counselor pays $350 to take his test with the National Association of Certified Credit Counselors, he also receives membership with the association.
