About Federal Long-Term Care Health Insurance
The Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP) is set up through the U.S. Office of Personal Management. The John Hancock Life and Health Insurance Company provides the coverage to eligible applicants.
-
Purpose
-
The Department of Health and Human Services estimates that 70 percent of individuals 65 and older will need long-term care. Long-term care provides an individual who has a long-term illness or disability with help performing activities such as bathing, dressing and eating. With FLTCIP, a worker does not have to use his income and assets to pay for care in his home, a nursing home or other long-term care facility.
Eligibility
-
Eligible workers are federal employees, U.S. Postal Service members and Washington, D.C., government and court employees. Active members of the military, fulltime National Guard members, selected reserve members and Tennessee Valley Authority employees can receive benefits.
-
Cost
-
A worker's age when he applies for coverage and the benefits he selects determine the amount of his premiums. He can pay for the premiums through a payroll deduction, automatic bank withdrawal or by direct bill.
