Swimming Pool Operation & Maintenance
If you own a pool, taking care of it properly will allow you to swim in clean water and prevent damage to the systems and lining. A regular maintenance schedule can prevent long-term problems that can be very expensive to fix. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Pumping
-
Proper circulation is critical in maintaining the correct chemical composition of a pool. For this reason, the pump should be operated 8 to 10 hours a day, as well as immediately after anyone uses the pool.
Cleaning
-
Once a week, skim the surface of the pool, brush the sides and vacuum the bottom. Remove debris from the pump and filter baskets. Backwash or rinse your filter according to the model specifications. If the pool is used frequently, increase your maintenance accordingly.
-
Chemicals
-
Use a test kit once a week to check your pH balance and chemical levels. Adjust your chemicals accordingly.
Troubleshooting
-
If your pool is well-maintained but still suffers from algae outbreaks, add a phosphate remover to your weekly routine. If the water has become cloudy, use a shock compound to remove chemicals that your chemical sanitizer, usually bleach, cannot take care of.
