    • For natural fiber carpets, such as a sisal rug, mix together ¼ cup of white vinegar and ¼ cup of water. The Real Simple website suggests combining ingredients in a spray bottle. Mist lightly on to the stain and blot. Repeat if necessary.

    Synthetic Fiber Carpets

    • For a synthetic carpet, white vinegar and water are effective, however, the application method differs slightly. Mix 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of water in a bowl. Dip a clean, white cloth into the solution and blot on to the stain. Repeat if necessary.

    High Traffic Areas

    • High traffic areas often require a more powerful cleaner. The Earth Easy website suggests forming a paste of ¼ cup of salt, ¼ cup of vinegar and ¼ cup of borax. Apply to the stain and vacuum after several hours.
