Theme parties aren't just for children's birthdays. There are theme party ideas for every occasion from birthdays to Christmas. For something truly creative, think outside the box. Host a 50s murder mystery party for a 50th birthday, a speakeasy-themed Super Bowl party, or a "south of the border"-themed graduation party for the student who is heading off to college in the Southwest.
Considerations
-
Visualize what the party's main table is going to look like before settling on a theme. When selecting a theme, don't just consider the guests and the honorees of the party. Think ahead, and figure out how far the theme will go. Decide ahead of time on decorations, themed food and what the main table is going to look like. Make sure there are enough ideas to successfully carry through on the theme.

Misconceptions
-
Making decorations can be half the fun of a theme party. At first glance, throwing a theme party might seem an expensive endeavor, but it doesn't have to be. Table decorations can come from anywhere. For a luau-themed party, use fishbowls filled with leis from the local dollar store. Wine glass centerpieces for a wine-themed party can be purchased bulk at a restaurant supply store and homemade cookies and gingerbread houses make excellent centerpieces for a fairy-tale-themed holiday party.
