Can Silk Scarves Be Cleaned With Dryer Dry Cleaning Cloths? thumbnail
Silk scarves are sometimes hard to clean.

Dry cleaning cloths for your home dryer let you skip the high cost of dry cleaning by doing all your cleaning at home. The products work on different types of fabric and may even work on some expensive fabrics such as silk scarves. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. The Process

    • Dry cleaning kits come with both a cloth and a spray. You spray tough or dried-on stains with the spray cleaner first and then place in your dyer with the dryer cloth.

    Test First

    • Before placing the silk scarf in the dryer, test a small amount of the dry cleaning spray on the scarf. If the fabric doesn't discolor, then it's safe to use. Try testing it on a small spot in the back of the scarf.

    Considerations

    • Using the dry cleaning cloth alone, shouldn't damage silk fabrics. Keep in mind that the cloth itself doesn't contain enough power to fully clean your dry clean only clothing. It may give the item a cleaner scent, but won't remove stains.
