Geography

The Flowering Almond is not native to North America, but grows well in most portions of the U.S., specifically zones 3B through 6. This covers most of the northern two-thirds of the U.S., with the exception of coastal areas, notably, almost the entire West Coast.
Fruit

The red-colored fruit of the Flowering Almond grows to a length of one inch or less. It attracts small mammals such as squirrels, but does not produce significant debris.

Branches

The tree requires little pruning to become attractive, though it can be pruned without harm. It branches and twigs remain slim, but tend to be resistant to breakage.
Growth

It grows well in part-shade to full-sun light conditions, in well-drained sand, clay or loam soil. Do not grow grass for four to six feet around the tree.
Dwarf

The Dwarf Flowering Almond, a shrub, reaches roughly 4 feet in height. Its flowers may be white or pink, with single or double blossoms. It is easily damaged and prone to insect problems.
