Hubble Space Discoveries
During the 20 years of Hubble's operation, the Hubble telescope has made many exciting discoveries. It allows astronomers to see deep space and gives them a new perspective of the universe.
-
Dark Energy
-
Some astronomers feel that the most important discovery the Hubble has made is dark energy. They believe dark energy is the force that causes the universe to expand.
Dark Matter
-
Hubble photographed light bent by dark matter. This is the first confirmation that dark matter exists.
-
Deep Field Photography
-
Hubble photographs with optical light with more magnification than any other optical lens. This allows astronomers new insights into the universe.
Black Holes
-
Hubble's photographs confirmed that black holes could be in galaxy centers. Seeing this helped define the relationship between black holes and galaxies.
Other Discoveries
-
Hubble has found and photographed other solar planets outside of Earth's. It has found material gathering together to form what will be a future planet. Hubble has taken photographs of gamma ray bursts and located a precise location of their origin. It has seen planetary bodies collide.
