Normal Laptop Temperatures
Although the normal temperature for a laptop will vary a lot from one laptop to the next, and from one use of the laptop to the next, keeping a laptop within a certain range of temperatures is important.
-
Main Indicator
-
The main temperature threshold will be determined largely by the processor that a laptop uses. Intel and AMD processors' normal temperatures range from about 60 degrees Celsius to the high 70s.
Monitoring
-
There are a number of temperature monitoring programs available for free, such as SpeedFan, Core Temp and Real Temp. These can help you monitor the temperature of your laptop to help you determine when it is over a normal temperature.
-
Effects
-
Luckily, the effects of an overheating laptop can usually be caught early. If your laptop is overheating you may be experiencing random freezes or resets. In the long term, if left at high temperatures, the processor could burn or have significantly decreased performance.
Considerations
-
To avoid rising beyond normal laptop temperatures in the operation of your laptop, remember to provide it with adequate ventilation and airflow as necessary. Never use a laptop directly on a soft surface, such as a couch, pillow or your lap.
