Life As an OTR Driver
OTR drivers are truck drivers. They are the men and women (usually men) who drive trucks filled with goods from one place to another. Since they are the connection between imports, exports and other interbusiness contacts, they are a key part of the economy.

Sedentary
-
Since OTR drivers spend hours driving their trucks from one place to another, they have a sedentary job. This means that it is easy for them to become unhealthy and overweight, particularly because the constant lifestyle encourages poor food choices.
Traveling Lifestyle
-
The life of an OTR driver is often a nomadic one, too. This is because your entire job is driving long distances; it is not uncommon for an OTR driver to drive goods across the country, which takes multiple days. This means that an OTR driver often spends his days living out of hotels and meeting new people.

Compensation
-
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, OTR drivers make an average of around $18 an hour, as of May 2008. The top earners are paid around $27 an hour, while the lowest earners make around $11 an hour.
