What to Wear to a Business Meeting
In recent decades, the definition of proper business attire has changed significantly. The pendulum has swung from dressy to the ambiguous "business casual." The dressy side is typically best for business meetings, especially if you're meeting someone for the first time.

Female Business Attire
-
A skirted business suit in a flattering color and style is best. Skirts that are knee length or slightly above present a professional image. Shoes with medium-height heels enhance the lines of the suit. Simple accessories augment the outfit.
Male Business Attire
-
Business suits in neutral colors are safe bets. Shirts in compatible pastel colors project an air of confidence. Minimally patterned ties in silky materials bring the outfit together. Belts and shoes don't need to match exactly but should be well-maintained and not clash. Conservative, understated jewelry is best.

Considerations
-
Some meeting environments require specialized clothing. For example, if the meeting is on a company yacht in the afternoon, somewhat casual attire is more appropriate. If the meeting takes place at a black-tie event or venue, formal clothing is suitable.
