Chlorine Tabs vs. Bleach

Bleach has many uses in and around the house.

Both chlorine tabs and liquid bleach use the same active ingredient: chlorine. The tablets are less messy and won't spill, while the liquid is a little more convenient for direct application.

Convenience

A common problem with liquid bleach is accidental spills, which can permanently ruin your garments. Similarly, if bleach gets on your hands and you inadvertently touch your clothes, the white marks may be impossible to remove. Chlorine tabs do not pose this problem as they are in solid form.

Dosing

Chlorine tabs can make it easier to achieve the desired concentration of chlorine in a liquid. If directions call for one tablet for a gallon of water, for instance, all you need to measure is the water. When working with liquid bleach, on the other hand, you must use cups or spoons.

Mixability

In addition to ease of measure, another advantage of chlorine tabs is that they require no mixing. Since chlorine tablets are effervescent, they bubble up and dissolve spontaneously once you throw place them into water, creating a homogeneous solution. Liquid, on the other hand must be mixed. This may not be a problem when dealing with a small bucket, but it is an issue when trying to chlorinate a large swimming pool. Advantage: chlorine tabs.
