A lot of luggage is left unclaimed with airlines.

Sometimes when the luggage hits the carousel at the airport, no one is there to claim it. For whatever reason, some luggage is left unclaimed and sometimes, eventually becomes available to the public.

  1. Where To Go

    • The Unclaimed Baggage Center is located in Scottsboro, Alabama. The building covers over a city block and is categorically arranged with unclaimed items from across the country. Shoppers can walk the store or attend periodic auctions. So far, it is the only store of its kind in the United States.

    What to Buy

    • Consider the wide range of items you pack in your luggage to prepare for vacation; that is what is available for purchase. Everything from iPods to eyeglasses to jackets to bundles of compact discs in black jackets are sold at discounted rates.

    Identification of Unclaimed Baggage

    • Unclaimed baggage is considered any item that has been "intensively" tracked by airlines. According to the Unclaimed Baggage Center, the airline is required to attempt to track the owner for at least 90 days before disposing, or selling, of the luggage and items within.
